Open Networks: Progress on delivering the transition in 2021 and what’s to come in 2022

Andy will be joining other Open Networks project leaders to share updates and plans in key areas:

  • Data and output
  • Whole energy system transformation
  • Flexibility and commercial evolution
  • Delivering Distribution System Operation (DSO)
  • Improving distribution connections for customers

Speaker profile

Andy is the business lead for National Grid ESO’s work on whole electricity system. In his role Andy is responsible for the strategic development of the ESO’s approach to Distribution System Operation and works closely with the ENA Open Networks project where he sits on the project’s Steering Group and chairs its Whole Energy System workstream.

Andy is also responsible for the development and delivery of the Regional Development Programmes (RDPs). These are collaborative programmes where National Grid ESO is working with other network organisations to develop co-ordinated markets for flexibility services.

Prior to undertaking this role, Andy has undertaken a variety of technical and commercial leadership roles within National Grid. His early career saw extensive experience working for a DNO in both operational and planning functions giving Andy unique insights into this field.
